My Christmas Haul and Beauty pressies

Happy Holidays everyone!  I had a chance to spend Christmas day doing some much needed retail therapy.  In between eating ridiculous amounts of food, I was doing nothing else but online shopping. I was very happy about this and grabbed a few highly sought after items for 50% off of rrp.  I could have bought so much this year, but I'm restraining myself from impulse buys (it's so very hard lol).

My first purchase was the Comet Boots by Acne on the Harrod's Boxing Day Sale which started a day early. I am praying that these fit me.  These are the type of boots that you have for life and at 50% off RRP, I just had to have them. 

 

The next impulse buy was the Guerlain Terra Nerolia highlight palette that I have given up ever owning. It appeared for 50% off on Debenhams, and I just knew I had to grab it. Look at that beautiful craftsmanship and I just know this is the kind of shimmer that my winter face just needs!

I will most definitely do a blog review on the Penhaligon's fragrance sample next. I couldn't believe they got me this beautiful set.  What more could a perfume addict want?

The MAC polish is a lovely nude colour that I am actually going to wear today.  Cherry in the Air is a very light and sweet fragrance. I will probably use it as a room freshener more so than a fragrance.  The Jo Malone Lime Basil & Mandarin is exactly the type of zesty unique scent that I need during these cold winter days.  The Clarins body cream is a very light gel like cream and I'm looking forward to taking this with me on my cruise to use :)

So these are the little pressies that I treated myself and was treated to this Christmas.  I was involved in several swaps online this year. It was a lot of fun and a great way to try new products.  I also spent most of my Christmas money at Lush and did a major hoard (which I didn't put on this post as I'm going to re-gift most of it anyways). I realize I need to calm down and step back in the new year and sort out my Lush stash! haha.

Boots Smooth Care Hair Lightener vs. Jolen bleach

I know this post isn't a very glamorous or fun one, but it's on a product that is very essential for me.  As embarrassing as it is, facial hair is a dark reality for me (as with many others).  I hate spending money on it, and I have been searching for a Jolen bleach replacement for quite some time now.  Jolen is a product that I have been using off and on since the early 90's.  At almost £5 for a small jar here in the uk, I knew I had to immediately find myself a cheaper alternative and thank god I did.

This is what comes in your box...

I can tell you immediately what I liked better about this product:

1.  Bigger spatula

2.  A dish, instead of just a flat piece of plastic like Jolen

3.  No powders to mess with, it's two tubes of cream that you mix together

4. The 1:1 ratio is a lot easier to mix than the Jolen's ratio of 1/3 to 1 (if memory serves me correct)

5.  No stinging what so ever

6.  No bleach spots on my skin as a result

and last but definitely not least

7. Much cheaper than Jolen

I am so happy to have found this replacement.  It is very effective without the stinging.  For some warped reason, I thought that stinging was a part of bleaching, oh how wrong I was.

I highly recommend this product!

Boots Points Now Redeemable Online!

This is exciting news!!!! Boots points are now redeemable online.  All I have to say about this is "WAHOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" Yes, I can now spend my points on Chanel!!!!! There is nothing better than Free Chanel is there? 

The checkout is super easy as there is a button under the price that allows you to check out by converting it to points.  It's about time Boots! I guess they listened to a lot of us complaining about not being able to use our points online.

Boots Botanics 3 Minute Deep Conditioning Hair Mask

I wanted to finish the entire conditioner prior to doing a review.  

If I had done this review a month ago, I would have said this was an amazing product.  I would have gone on and on about how moisturising this was, and how it made my hair feel great.

Well a month later, and my opinion has changed slightly.

With continual use, this stopped working on my hair.  It started to become too heavy for my hair.  It just wasn't as effective whether you kept it in for 3 minutes, 5 minutes or 10 minutes.  I wouldn't recommend using this frequently. Perhaps once every 1.5 weeks or more.

The scent was lovely, and the price is just as good (£5.10).

You can purchase this at Boots, and a lot of times there is a buy 3 for 2 sales.

Battle of the Boots Eye Make up Removers

I have the Botanics Soothing Eye make up remover and the Boots essentials cucumber eye make up remover gel to compare today. 

 Both are inexpensive make up removers and both are manufactured by boots.   They both are 150ml, but the boots botanics line is slightly more expensive.   The botanics one costs £3.05 and the Essentials gel cost £1.42.

In my opinion, after using both for quite some time now, they both get the job done in taking off makeup.  I personally don't like the oily film that the Botanics leaves.  The cucumber gel is very basic, nothing fancy about it, but it is freshly scented and it does't leave my face feeling oily.  I always have to wash my face immediately after using the botanics one, because I'm dying to get the oils off my lids.  Now some people might like this, but I personally don't.


We always equate more expensive to mean better, but this isn't always the case.  I wouldn't say that at £3.05, the Boots remover isn't worth the price, but I did this comparison for those who are timid or concerned that the £1.42 cucumber remover wouldn't be as good.


So if you are looking to save big money! Then opt for the cucumber one vs. the Botanics remover and save that money.  Then with the money you saved, head over to the Barry M or models own and blow it all away on nail polish (this is what I'd do :p)!

I love how Boots have those machines that you put your card into and it spits out coupons! There is nothing better than saving money, right girls? Well this week, the coupons are:

Boots mini haul: 17 eye dazzle in Fancy Free and Batiste dry shampoo for brunette hair

I have a tiny/mini haul and I wouldn't even have bothered to post this, but I wanted people to know that if you put your advantage card into the machine, a coupon will print out for a free 17 eye dazzle with any 17 purchase. I had no idea about this, it came as a pleasant surprise, so deal alert!

Anyways, I went to get a 17 nail polish, after seeing it on a blog, for a friend. Luckily they had it, my boots doesn't really have much. So I was glad to have gotten the eye dazzle for free (£3.99).  I decided to play it safe and go for the most neutral colour and I picked Fancy Free which was a pink/peach/beige blend.

I like this sort of pigment control, the holes will prevent it from getting all over the cap and prevent spilling.

Yes I'm chicken sh**%t, I always go for the neutral colours when I try new brands haha

It was very finely milled pigment.  It has a metallic/pearly sheen to it, hence calling them eye dazzle.  A little does go a long way that is why you get a tiny jar for £3.99.

You definitely will have to wear an eye primer, because this had no staying power.

My next purchase was a Batiste dry shampoo for brown and brunette hair.

I so needed this. I do love Batiste for their quality and very affordable price, but I found that for girls like me with black hair, you see these white residue and that is a major NO NO. I don't want to look like I have dandruff, so when I saw this on the clearance aisle, I had to pick it up.  I used it today, no white dandruff flake looking residue! And smells fresh and made my hair feel fresh too.  

So I'm very much in love. It's a shame they only had one of these on clearance.

Just a small haul for you all.  I just love boots, it gives me that fix I need for next to nothing.

Boots Botanics Bodycare Nourishing Body Butter

I love this body butter so much, and I know I've been moaning a lot lately about how dry my skin is, and I'm using this lotion and that lotion and now I've finally found something that is reasonably priced and works!

Boots Botanics line is suppose to be products that include ingredients from plant extracts.  It is similar to companies such as Aveda and Origins. For £4 (or cheaper during Boots 3 for 2 sale), I got a large 450ml/15.2 us fl oz. size tub.  At first I feared it would be light and airy despite being called a body butter, because of it's price (sort of like how The Body Shop's body butters are, but when I went to get my first scoop, it was quite hard and a little went a long way when it melted.  Just the way body butters should be. So I was quite happy about that.

I also love the scent.  The label reads Honey and grapeseed oil, but honestly I don't smell neither of those products, in fact it smells very "green" to me and fresh.  Another bonus.

It also is not sticky - another bonus!

So many good things to say about this product.  I'm so happy it's affordable and it works.

I highly recommend this body butter if you skin is parched for moisture and you particularly like green scents - Oh and don't mind spending £4 for a huge tub either :)


**Updated review***

I have to change my recommendation of this body butter after prolonged use.  If you apply too much lotion, it begins to flake on you.  This is my #1 pet peeve in lotions, and unfortunately this lotion does the same thing if you apply too much.  I do sometimes like to over saturate my skin, especially on dry patches.  I will not be buying this product again because of this reason.  I still believe that for the price, you do get tons of product, but I just can't stand the flaking.

Review: No 7 Stay Perfect Eyeshadow in 55 Wheatsheaf

My £5 voucher was burning a hole in my pocket, so since I had to go into town for some much needed Asian groceries, I stopped by my favourite shop...BOOTS!!

It's almost embarrassing, because the ladies at the till know me now :p

For £3, I am now able to try my very first No 7 eyeshadow. Now for the average British girl, this shadow has been raved and ranted about for years, so my post may be boring, BUT for the American girls reading this, Target is carrying No 7, so this review may be helpful.
Although, I'm not sure if the formula is different or not overseas.

Ok....so I picked a very basic and neutral colour....a pink/beige/shimmery colour used for all over eye colour and for highlighting.

Love this neutral colour!

Weird name right?

PROS

* Smooth & Silky formula (I give this a 6 out of 10, and 10 being the texture of Dior)

* Nice shimmering flattering colour.  This colour reminds me of MAC's Naked Lunch

* Both for cool and warm toned women

CONS

* £7 is a bit steep for this shadow, especially if they can continue to give the £5 off voucher.  It means even at £3 a shadow, Boots is still making a profit

* Packaging is very weak, the lid can break right off if you're not careful

Overall, I'm happy to have spent the £3 to get to try No 7.  I know I won't re-purchase this at £8, which is what Boots is hoping for with this promotion.  I know I can't complain over something that cost so little, but other than the packaging, I really think this is a decent eyeshadow and if you are a bit tight on cash, then this promotion is a great way to try an eyeshadow that will deliver above average quality.

I think the next time I get another £5 voucher, I'm going to try one of their highlighting or concealer products.

My Boots Botanics Obsession

One thing that I miss about Miami was my Aveda spa.  Nothing felt more relaxing and more purifying to my body and soul than to step in there for a nice massage and facial with their products.  I loved that natural, woodsy, a bit earthy yet pleasant scent that filled their spa.
Ahhhhhhhh.....MEMORIES!

It's definitely a bit of a change in my scenery since those days lol
BUT...I have found a line (an affordable line) of products that gives me that same satisfaction here in England.  I know that the US has Boots products in their Targets, but I'm not sure if they have these.

Boots carries a variety of different products that they make.  The prices range anywhere from 99p to £10.  I have been so spoiled by using some very pricey products in the past that I thought I spoiled myself too much, but this was not the case.  I absolutely find the Boots Botanics line to be absolutely amazing for what they are charging. Their products are based around the same principles as Aveda. They use "active plant extracts" and believe in the "natural power of plants".

Here is a pic of everything that I have picked up since being here.
It was a bit gloomy where I was, so forgive the dark picture, I'll definitely list them for you.

My current collection and what I think of the products:

1) Soothing Eye Make up remover - I have blogged about wanting this product after hearing about it from other bloggers.  This remover has iceland moss which hydrates and soothes.  I've been caking on the mascara recently and literally one swipe of this, and everything comes off, without irritating my eyes (which has happened with many products). This is odourless to my nose, which is also good because I have sensitive eyes.

2) Leave-in Volumising Conditioner - This product has helped my hair regain moisture while adding volume to my roots before I blow dry my hair.  I prefer this more than the big sexy hair root pump that I was using previously.  This doesn't make my hard hard like that did, and the scent is a fresh, slightly citrusy and sweet.

3) Glossy Brunette Conditioner - I honestly didn't know what to expect when I bought this, I just assumed it would be a conditioner and the ingredients just made it dark, but it is dark, because it actually has some agents in it that dye your hair.  I have officially ruined the white shower curtain, because some of the product flicks on there and stains.  I use a hair wrap and my white hair wrap has traces of the colouring.  I had no idea the staining power, so I am assuming that is why my hair has retained some brown to it, without looking faded.  It does have a stronger scent than the rest of the Botanics products, for those who have a sensitive nose.  It doesn't bother me much.  So this was a bit of a shocker when it actually dyed bits of my hair and everything else around me lol.

4) Ultra Moisturising Shampoo - Same scent as the leave-in conditioner, very nice and not overly thick shampoo.  A little goes a long way, and really does not dry my hair out.  Before this, I was using a solid shampoo by Lush (Karma Koomba) and that really stripped my hair of tons of moisture, so this is really helping it now.

I got the above items with Boots coupons that you acquire when you stick your card in their machine, and I got some for free during their 3 for 2 sale.

I also just got these new ones yesterday during my Boots haul, and I am already in love with them. 

I took advantage of the 3 for 2 sale again and made out with one free item, and I had a coupon as well, so I ended up getting one of these items for like 33% off.

I picked up the:

1) Bodycare Nourishing Body Butter - This tub is huge! Almost double of the body shop body butters and like half the price.  It has Honey and Grapeseed oil and you can smell both those ingredients, but very slightly.  That's great, because I hate slathering on body butter and seriously stinking all night long like that scent - it makes my nose & allergies go nuts.  My Fcuk body butter that I got when I first moved here is almost done and that really is a strong fruity oriental scent and it really works my nose when I have to slather my entire body in it before bedtime.  So I'm really going to embrace this new lotion.

2) 3 Minute Deep Conditioning Hair mask - I used this conditioner this morning, and I don't think I waited 3 minutes, I'm really antsy like that in the shower :) But my hair does feel much softer today.  I think I'll use this interchangeably with the glossy brunette condition and see how that works out.  The scent is the same with the moisturising shampoo and the leave-in conditioner.  So that consistency is very good in my books.

and last but not least

3) Bathing Luxurious Bath Elixir - It came in a huge glass jar and killed my arms bringing these back home yesterday (along with a huge cake too).  This definitely reminds me of a scent from Aveda, but I just can't put my finger on it. Driving me mad :) I'm going to give this a try tonight, I hope it creates some bubbles, because it looks very thick.
It contains "Iceland Moss".  I never realised how much I would like Iceland Moss lol or any Moss for that matters, but this is a very earthy scent that invokes a sense of serenity and nature.  I'm so not a nature girl (i.e. hiking, fishing, camping) so this is as Natural as Sue will get :)

Overall, I'm definitely obsessed with the Botanics line.  Great scent, delivers what it says it will deliver, and great affordable (heck I'll say it, CHEAP) price.

I also have a HUGE RAVE for Boots.  I love their point system, despite it being small, they constantly have several promotions and bonus points offer, so it's easy to accumulate.  They never expire, so you can continue to accumulate or redeem whenever.  I will be accumulating all my points until X-mas and splurge on a luxurious Chanel item.  Christmas can't come fast enough this year!

Haulage Part 1 : Freebies & Cheap Makeup finds

I'm here to show you my massive haul for this week. Yes I know it's only Tuesday, but when there are free makeup giveaways, I go runnin' ! :)

Up first is Jemma Kidd lip gloss with Red Magazine.
It's a summer perfect Pink/coral lippie.

Full size. I have absolutely LOVE the citrus scent to this lipgloss, smooth texture and  application.  It's a lovely little lipgloss to throw into your bag and reapply constantly without worrying about using it all up like I do with my precious Chanel lippies.


Next up is my Reiss tank top or vest as they call it here, I had a choice with the white, blue, and grey and of course I went for the grey :) Very thin and just a simple "knock-around" top for home or running to the shop real quick. I'm quite happy with this. Oh and it came with Elle Magazine.

I really do enjoy all these free giveaways, well I love the magazines too. I am very digital and electronic when it comes to everything else in my life, but when it comes to fashion magazines and schedules/planner, I love having it in my hand.

Another item that I picked up was Rescue Oil, which is supposedly a miracle oil to help with scars, stretch marks, and other skin issues. 

The packaging states that it is to be gently massaged in the area you want to moisturise or into your bath.

It apparently helps with:

 * Ageing Skin

* Scar Tissue

* Treatment and prevention of stretch marks

* Before and after pregnancy massage oil

* After sun treatment

* Dry dehydrated skin conditions 

* Therapeutic bath oil

I'll be using this for the latter 2.

 I have never heard of this stuff until I saw Bio-Oil at Boots and went home to google it. I didn't realise that there were all these great reviews on this product.  Then, this past weekend, I forget who's blog I read it from (sorry!) but they said that instead of buying the £9-10 bottle of bio-oil to give Rescue Oil a try for only £1, so I figured....why not? If it doesn't work, I won't cry over £1.

So here it is, it's a strange orange colour due to the peach kernel oil, and it really doesn't have a odour either.  I'll give this a go tonight and report back!

So while I was in poundland buying Rescue oil, I couldn't help myself to stroll around, and saw a bunch of Rimmel lipsticks.  Ok, so I have never worn Rimmel and up until recently, I was a bit of a snob and wouldn't wear makeup unless it was expensive (How delusional was that right?!?!?!) and so I decided to give it a go. For £1 I gave it a go, but honestly I'm not happy with it, it instantly started to make my lips flake. So overall, nice colour, but made my lips flake, so it won't be staying with me.

So right after Poundland, I popped into Superdrug, because I was getting my friend Gosh Gasoline and Gosh Blue Monday.  As much as those colours are very very very pretty, I'm just not dying to get it for myself.  Maybe because I know I have access to it now. Now watch, Gosh will discontinue them and I'll be here kicking myself in the a$$ for not picking them up lol!

So Gosh is 3 for 2 right now, so I grabbed this one for myself.

This is my first Gosh (apart from the holographic one that sucked really badly), so I will do a NOTD soon and report back.

So I am splitting up this haulage into 2 parts, but the second part has to do with my Boots rave and all the Boots items that I got at a bargain bargain price.
To kick off the next part, this is one item that I got for only £2.50.
No 7 nude lipliner (made very popular by Lisa Eldridge) was something that I couldn't pass up with my £5 off voucher.  You get one of these vouchers when you spend £5 or more at Boots, so essentially, you get it for nothing.
This lipliner is suppose to be very flattering and yes it is.  It really is and I'm so freaking happy with this lipliner, because all the liners that I have owned before wore too nude on me or leaned too brown for my liking, and this matches my natural lip colour perfectly!
I just found my favourite lip liner!

So yes, next up will be my Boot's haul.

Boots Essentials Natural Hair Serum

Of course when I moved here, a lot of beauty products didn't make the cut. Anything that had any type of serum/liquid consistency stayed behind in the states. As much as I love hoarding my beauty products, there was no way I was going to risk having them spill over my few bags and shoes that I had left.

So my frizzy dried hair self walked into Boots to pick up a hair serum and I cringed looking at the prices. I noticed Toni & Guy was very popular, but at 8 pounds ($14-15) I didn't think it was worth it. Here I go comparing US prices and UK prices and products again lol. But I just couldn't do it.

I am a self proclaimed cheap wad, I admit it. So when I saw Boots had a nice size bottle of hair serum, I walked happily and paid 2 pounds for it.

What a deal.
This is a pump style bottle and one pump is sufficient.
I made the mistake of putting 2 pumps in my hair and my thin (already greasy) hair looked like I barely even washed it.
So a little goes a long way.
The smell is sooooooo pleasant :) light fresh floral scent and I did accidentally rub my eyes with this stuff on and it didn't sting my eyes.

In the past, I have used some very popular and expensive hair gloss/glass serums and spray and other than TIGI head rush, this has to be the 2nd best hair serum I've used.

And paying 2 pounds didn't hurt the wallet and I am quite happy with the results
